Well this month is a very big month indeed. Lots of international and national days or weeks to celebrate or remember. Here is a few I know about….
World Maritime Day
Baby safety month
Classical music month
Cold and flu campaign
National bed check month
National chicken month
National honey month
National rice month
Organic harvest month
National singles week
Constitution week
National dog week
Hispanic heritage month
I am sure a search of the web will reveal more. If you know of more, write and let me know. I got to wondering… what is the purpose of all these national and international days?
Here is what I came up with....
National and international days help you to
Learn more about your world
Learn what is important to others so you can become more tolerant and accepting
Encourage you to give support to their cause
Help your kids grow in awareness of some of these things
Give attention to some things in your life you make not think about rectifying or preparing for otherwise
Have some fun!
Lots of good reasons why you should celebrate or at least learn about them. I'm going to have a go..Will you?

Friendship Week
Friendship week
A friend is someone you know. How close you are to that friend is determined by how much of each other you share.
It takes chance interaction and expression/discussion common experience or interest to be a friend and it needs to be reciprocal.
It takes some giving of spare time, sharing of interests and hobbies and sharing of resources to be a good friend and it needs to be reciprocal.
It takes deliberate giving of your precious time and giving generously of your resources and sharing your hopes and dreams to be a close friend and it needs to be reciprocal.
It takes sacrificial giving of your own time as theirs, giving of resources even sometimes above your own needs, sharing of your most intimate thoughts and feelings, and forgiving to be an intimate friend and it needs to be reciprocal.
In order to have friends, you have to be a friend….and how many friends you have and how close you are to those friends is directly related to how much you are prepared to give.
Friendship week is a great time to reflect on your ability and willingness to give.

Flameless Candles
Flameless Candles
Flameless candles are perfect for adding the glow of candlelight safely and beautifully.
Every day we hear in the news of house fires caused by an unattended candle. It is of extreme importance that you never burn a candle unless you will be around.
If you have a display that needs to be lit and on display all the time a battery operated LED pillar candle or and electric candle are the better alternative.
Personally, I dont like the artificial-ness of battery candles but they do have their place.
If you intend to use candles with a naked flame, please follow a few simple steps that will prevent the unthinkable...a fire in your home.....

- Use a hurricane holder to protect the flame or
- Ensure your candleholder has a wide stable base
- Keep candles away from curtains and other flammable items
- Keep candles out of breezes
- Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets
- Set yourself an alarm to remind you to extinguish your candle before you leave the house or go to bed
- Extinguish your candle flame with a proper candle snuffer. (Blowing it out can also reduce the effectiveness and long life of your candle).
